A subtle rendering of the true message of the Christmas season, the First Light Players’ presentation of  Christmas 9-1-1 blends humor, poignancy, and contemporary issues to tell an entertaining and moving story.
Set in an urban police station on Christmas Eve, the play presents the struggles of the officers and perpetrators trying to find connection and meaning. Will they realize the rewards of faith, family and love, or will they chase after empty promises?
Writer Greg Beastrom employs coarse language, pop culture references, and gritty social issues to keep the story realistic and meaningful, making the spiritual message even more powerful.
First rate acting, combined with good timing and energy enhances the story, aided by director Cathy Holbrook’s constantly moving choreography. Nichol Price powerfully portrays a strung-out heroin addict. Olivia Gowan brings a quiet grace to police officer Tracy. Rico Simonini’s Lt. Mike Harrington exudes strength and dignity. Fernando Viso makes Det. Porter a passionate, gung-ho presence.
Leslie McElroy’s and Holbrook’s perfectly realized police set contains many fine details and props, which capture the struggling humanity of the characters.  A finely acted, thoughtful production, Christmas 9-1-1 reveals the miracles that happen in people’s lives when they truly love and care for each other.

Overview

It's Christmas Eve at the precinct station and all the creatures are stirring, including the jaded cops, brassy hookers, pimps, junkies and pickpockets. It's the kind of place that needs the little miracles that happen during the holiday season and unto them a little miracle comes in the form of a jolly old saint with a white beard and red suit. The problem? This little miracle has just been busted for breaking and entering. And he just may be an escaped mental patient who thinks he's the real deal. Is he or isn't he? It's up to these cops to discover the truth. A truth that was born in a manger 2000 years ago. Join us for a special Christmas comedy that will touch your heart and make you laugh all the way down Santa Claus Lane.
